PADI Open WaterThe PADI open water course is recognised and respected throughout the world, that’s why four out of every five divers choose to learn under the PADI system. Your PADI open water certification is your passport to great diving everywhere. The course is focussed on diving and all the three sections work in harmony to make diving safe, comfortable and fun. Knowledge DevelopmentDiving has a fantastic safety record (Statistically safer than Tennis!) which is due to training. Knowledge development not only covers the skills from the confined and open water but helps you to understand how water pressure changes with depth (physics) and also how a body is affected by those pressure changes (physiology) – a better understanding of these basics helps to makes sense of the techniques and equipment used to make diving safe and enjoyable. Also covered are topics like interacting with wildlife as well as how to buy your own scuba gear. Confined Water The confined water or pool work is an opportunity to practice and perfect essential dive skills under the close supervision of an instructor. It covers the techniques you use on every dive (Mask clearing, equalisation and signals) as well as simulations for skills which are much rarer (Alternate air-source use). It’s a good opportunity to get familiar with the equipment you’re using and if you already have some of your own gear then its much better getting used to it in a pool before using it for real. Open Water DivesThe four open water dives that complete your course are first and foremost dives. A common misconception is to regard the training dives as somehow less than a dive, this could not be further from the truth, the four open water dives have all the elements of a typical dive AND you also do some skills too! The open water dives are the first four dives you will record in the dive log, and given the diverse wildlife and warm clear Caribbean waters there’s often lots of cool stuff to write about. e-Learning – the open water fast track The PADI e-Learning system has revolutionised learning to dive, now for the first time it is possible to complete the open water course using only a couple of days of valuable vacation time.
Because the PADI course is modular and the same high standards are maintained worldwide, it has always been possible to start the course in one location and complete it in another. e-Learning takes this one stage further and allows you to bring the resources of the diveshop into the comfort and convenience of your own home. By using the online resources you can fully complete all the required educational aspects of the open water course (exactly as you would at any PADI dive center or resort) including the quizzes and final test. By doing it at home (or anywhere with internet access) you can progress through your course whenever you have spare time. But e-Learning is much more, diving involves a lot of common sense and you already know more than you may think, by checking your understanding as the course proceeds, the e-Learning system targets only the learning you need, tailoring the course specifically to your strengths and weaknesses like your own personal tutor.
